A Sarnia country blues band has dropped a new single to honour the working class.
Blue Collar Anthem by Cory James Mitchell Band was released on June 12.
Mitchell said he wanted to make a song for the people who don't get the 'thank you' they deserve.
"It's an anthem for the working class. I grew up on my dad's oil rigs, the other guys in the band, they're in the carpenters' union, they're process operators, so we definitely practice what we preach."
Mitchell said the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of the blue collar worker.
"The people that keep this city rolling on and on, the people that are out there everyday working 60, 70 hours a week just to make ends meet and to keep things spinning -- those are the people that really need the 'thank you.' In light of kind of what's happening in the world right now, people are starting to realize that, and the essential workers and the blue collar workers are starting to get their just due."
Mitchell, who's also a barber here in town, said he's not working at the moment and is instead staying busy with a nine-month-old son and his two other boys.
He said he's looking to get back to the every day stuff that we take for granted, like grabbing a beer with some friends and performing on stage.
"We're finding comfort in that everyone here is safe and healthy. There's a lot of people that I know that have been working through the whole thing and have been kind of putting their necks out on the line. I mean, just stay humble in knowing that there's lots of people out there who are keeping things going for us while we just kind of sit and wait to see what the future holds."
