$100K worth of drugs, guns seized in Chatham

An 18-year-old Chatham man and a 45-year-old Chatham woman are facing several charges after officers seized guns and approximately $105,000 worth of suspected drugs.

Chatham-Kent police said members of the Intelligence Section and the Critical Incident Response Team searched a residence on Park Street in Chatham on Wednesday night.

Police seized approximately $105,000 worth of suspected drugs such as fentanyl and cocaine. A loaded handgun and sawed-off shotgun, digital scales, cash, packaging material, and price lists were also seized during the search.

Russell Jacques, 18, was taken into police custody but allegedly struggled during the arrest. He was charged with the following offences: - Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl)

- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine)

- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Hydromorphone)

- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon

- Possession of a Restricted Firearm (with ammunition)

- Careless Storage of a Firearm

- Careless Storage of a Firearm

- Resist Peace Officer

- Seven counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order

Jacques was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Meanwhile, Heather Clayton, 45, is facing six charges. She is accused of the following offences:

- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl)

- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine)

- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon

- Possession of a Restricted Firearm (with ammunition)

- Careless Storage of a Firearm

- Careless Storage of a Firearm

Clayton was released from police custody with a future court date scheduled for September 11.

The charges against the accused have not been proven in court.
