Lambton-Kent public board announces staggered start for elementary students

The Lambton Kent District School Board has announced a staggered start during the first week of school for Senior Kindergarten to Grade 8 students.

Half of the student body will attend school on Tuesday, September 8 for one day. On Wednesday, September 9, the remaining students who did not attend the previous day, will attend.

On Thursday, September 10, all Senior Kindergarten to Grade 8 students will attend school.

Junior Kindergarten students have a delayed entry, with their first day of school on Monday, September 14.

The board announced the changes Thursday to support the transition back to school and to help students with learning school health and safety procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.

Schools will communicate directly with families prior to the start of the year to provide specific information about start dates, and instructions for school arrival and health and safety procedures. Schools will ensure elementary students from the same household are scheduled to attend on the same day.

To support school orientation for its incoming Grade 9 students, the board said classes for Grade 9 students will begin on Tuesday, September 8. The first day of classes for students in Grades 10 to 12 will be on Wednesday, September 9.

Students also have the option to be removed from their home school and be enrolled in virtual home instruction.
