Perth-Wellington MP Nater excited for new Shadow Cabinet role

Perth-Wellington MP John Nater says he was honoured to be named to new Conservative leader Erin O'Toole's shadow cabinet this week.

Nater will serve as Shadow Minister of Rural Economic Development, and he has a major goal he would like to address.

"In 2020, with COVID-19 making things all the worse, we've seen how much we rely on high-speed internet, and far too many communities, businesses, farmers, farm families and school aged children just don't have access to high-speed internet."

Nater says getting better broadband service for farmers is priority number one. Beyond that, he says there are other items in the portfolio he's looking forward to.

"It's both exciting and an honour to be named to the shadow cabinet, I'm really looking forward to the portfolio. There's a lot of key issues I'm looking forward to focusing on, too, including pilot programs for rural immigration and focusing on some of the infrastructure needs of rural communities."

The Second Session of the 43rd Parliament is set to begin on Wednesday, September 23, with the Speech from the Throne.
