Driver succumbs to injuries after serious crash on Hwy. 401 in CK

A crash that shut down the eastbound Highway 401 for several hours Wednesday afternoon in the Chatham area has taken a tragic turn.

Chatham-Kent OPP said 28-year-old James Baillie of West Perth, who was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after the crash between Bloomfield Road and Communication Road, has died from his injuries.

Police said he was the driver and only occupant of a passenger vehicle that collided with a tractor-trailer.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or the Chatham-Kent detachment at (519) 352-1122 as the incident is still under investigation.

The highway was closed for approximately five hours Wednesday afternoon, but has since re-opened to traffic.
