A flood watch issued for Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent has been upgraded to a flood warning.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) said low-level flooding in some areas along Erie Shore Drive is expected to continue into Wednesday afternoon. A flood watch has also been issued for the Lake Erie shoreline and Lighthouse Cove because of strong winds on Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair.
"In addition to water on some properties, water has been observed on the road at one location, although not to significant depths," said Jason Wintermute, manager of watershed and information services for the LTVCA.
The LTVCA said all non-essential traffic should avoid the area to ensure that municipal staff and/or emergency services can access the area when required. The conservation authority added the shoreline is at risk of damage and erosion, including the high bluffs on Lake Erie because of high lake levels and strong waves.
Flooding is also possible in Lighthouse Cove.
Wave forecasts for Lake Erie are calling for waves over 1.5 metres with waves on the open lake peaking at two to three metres Wednesday morning. Waves on Lake St. Clair are predicted to be up to one metre on Wednesday. This flood warning and watch will be in effect until Thursday.
