Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece has issued a statement regarding the deadly COVID-19 outbreak at a local long-term care home.
Cedarcroft Place Retirement Home has been hit hard by the virus. There have been 44 positive cases in residents, and 18 in staff. 34 residents are still sick, as are 13 employees. The outbreak has resulted in 4 deaths now, and Pettapiece says the news is extremely troubling.
Pettapiece's full statement is as follows:
“The outbreak at Cedarcroft Place Retirement Home is on our minds. I was very sad to hear of the loss of life. I am also thinking of the residents and staff who are sick and their families.
“Since this outbreak began, I have been in touch with Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health. I have offered to do whatever I can to be helpful. Huron Perth Public Health is doing an exceptional job in difficult circumstances. They have my full confidence as they continue leading the response to the outbreak.
“To make sure the province fully understands the seriousness of this situation, I wrote last week to the Minister of Health as well as the Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. I have also spoken with constituents and families.
“The Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) is the province’s independent regulator of Ontario’s retirement homes. They are in contact with Cedarcroft and local public health authorities.
“This is a difficult time. The best way for people to help is to continue following the public health advice. Let’s all do our part.”
