Three new COVID-19 cases in London, Middlesex County

For the second day in a row, the number of new coronavirus cases in London and Middlesex County was in the single digits.

After an increase of five was reported Monday, the Middlesex London Health Unit reported three new cases on Tuesday. That brings the number of local cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,370.

"We’ve now had 55 cases over the last five days compared to 103 cases over the previous five-day stretch," London Mayor Ed Holder tweeted on Tuesday. "Let’s continue working together to flatten that curve."

The health unit said 1,199 people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. There have been 63 deaths in London and Middlesex County. There are currently 108 active cases.

Outbreaks of the virus continue on two units at University Hospital (fourth floor general medicine and ninth floor orthopaedic), however, the outbreak at Henley Place Long Term Care Residence was declared over on Monday. There are currently no outbreaks at any long term care facilities or retirement residences in London or Middlesex County.

The number of new COVID-19 cases returned to the single digits in Elgin and Oxford counties as well. Southwestern Public Health, the region’s health unit, reported seven new cases Tuesday. That brings the case count up to 455. Of those, 63 are considered active.

The death toll is unchanged at five with no new deaths since July.

Across Ontario, Tuesday marked yet another day in which there were more than 1,000 new cases.

Public health officials said there were 1,249 new infections on Monday. Of the new cases, 569 are in Toronto, 256 in Peel, and 94 in York Region. Health Minister Christine Elliott said nearly 26,500 tests were processed.

There were an additional 12 deaths linked to the virus across the province to bring the death toll up to 3,383.
