For the second day in a row, the number of new cases of COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County was over 20.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported 23 new cases on Thursday. That brings the total since the start of the pandemic to 1,143. There have been 1,226 recoveries reported. The number of active cases is 124, up from 119 on Wednesday.
Outbreaks of the virus continue on two units at University Hospital (fourth floor general medicine and ninth floor orthopaedic), however, there are currently no outbreaks at any long term care facilities or retirement residences in London or Middlesex County.
The London Health Sciences Centre says it is currently treating 11 patients with COVID-19.
The number of new COVID-19 cases in Elgin and Oxford counties returned to the single digits on Thursday. Southwestern Public Health, the region’s health unit, reported nine new cases Thursday. That brings the case count up to 475. Of those, 65 are considered active. The death toll is unchanged at five with no new deaths since July.
Provincial health officials reported 28 deaths on Thursday, after reporting 32 on Wednesday. Health Minister Christine Elliott says there were 1,210 new cases reported Thursday, the 14th straight day of more than 1,000 new cases.
There are 526 people in Ontario being treated in hospital for COVID-19. Of those, 146 are in intensive care and 88 are on ventilators.
