Flooding woes continue along Lake Erie

A flood warning has been issued for Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) said that stretch of road is flooded in several areas. Jason Wintermute, manager of watershed and information services for the LTVCA, is reporting that all non-essential traffic should avoid the area to allow municipal staff and/or emergency services can access the area if necessary.

Strong wind is expected on Thursday and Friday and a Gale Warning remains in effect for western Lake Erie. Wintermute said the current level of flooding should stick around for a couple of days.

"Although conditions are not as bad as last weekend, there is still water on many properties and around some of the homes," said Wintermute.

The conservation authority is asking people to avoid the area because the waves on Lake Erie can be strong, and the shoreline slippery. The LTVCA said there could also be hazardous debris such as rocks within the waves which could be thrown onto the shoreline.

The other areas of the Lake Erie shoreline are still under a flood watch. The flood warning and flood watch will remain in effect until Saturday.
