Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker has announced a boost in funding for social services relief funding in Grey and Bruce counties.
In a release on December 10th, Walker announced Grey and Bruce would be receiving an additional $601,500 for social services funding. Bruce will receive an additional $167,600 in funding and Grey County will receive an additional $433,900. The funding can be used for protecting homeless shelter staff and residents, renovating and purchasing shelter facilities, adding to rent banks, creating longer-term housing solutions and supporting plans to prepare for potential future outbreaks and/or emergencies. It can also be used to improve the delivery of critical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bruce County has now received $1,741,380 in social services relief funding, while Grey County has now received $3,540,147.
“Our government is responding to the ongoing needs of COVID-19 by providing more flexible funding to keep our vulnerable citizens safe,” says MPP Walker. “We know that COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of having a place to call home, and this additional funding will help ensure everyone can find – and keep – a safe and secure roof over their head.”
