Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is recommending the region move into the red "control" level as cases of COVID-19 continue to rise.
In a release, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Nicola Mercer says COVID-19 is spreading very quickly, and the rate at which cases continue to grow requires immediate action. Moving to the red zone means limitations to gathering sizes and new restrictions to businesses.
If the Ontario government follows the recommendation to move the area into red, it would be announced on Friday and come into effect on Monday, December 14.
The earliest possible move back to orange would be 28 days later.
Across Wellington, Dufferin and Guelph there were 24 new cases of COVID-19 added Wednesday, for a total of 195 active cases.
