UPDATE: Eight COVID-19 cases reported in Windsor-Essex schools

Classes may be suspended now, but the local English Catholic school board has reported more COVID-19 cases.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board reported Monday evening that new single cases of coronavirus were confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary and St. Angela Elementary, both in Windsor, and Holy Cross Elementary in LaSalle.

A fourth case was also confirmed at St. Thomas of Villanova High School in LaSalle, the third case at that school alone.

With schools across the region already shifted to online learning this week due to an increase in cases, the board is still notifying the community of the developments.

"We have been working with the health unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected," said board spokesman Stephen Fields in an email to Blackburn News. "The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow."

The board also recommends that with their children home this week, parents should continue to monitor them for any symptoms.

The WECDSB currently has 17 active cases spanning eight schools, according to the board's website Monday evening. Only one outbreak is in effect, at Corpus Christi Middle School's Central Park Athletics campus, where a total of eight cases have been reported.

At the Greater Essex County District School Board, there have been 102 cases since September.

On Monday, two cases were reported at Bellewood Public School.  There was also a new case at Harrow Public School and at General Amherst Secondary School in Amherstburg.
