COVID upswing in Sarnia-Lambton continues

Lambton Public Health has reported 30 new COVID-19 cases over the past five days.

The local case count since March 25 went up another seven Friday for a total of 477. Recoveries are up two at 411 and the death toll is at 27, which means there are 39 active cases now, up from 24 last Sunday.

Bluewater Health has three positive patients, down one, and is reporting an 18th death at the Sarnia hospital. Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said a 79-year-old woman, in hospital since the second week of December, died.

The number of workplace outbreaks dropped from four to three Friday. An outbreak declared December 3 when two positive cases were confirmed at Shell Canada's Corunna plant is now over according to the health unit.

Sarnia-Lambton remains at the yellow-protect level in Ontario's response framework, and London-Middlesex is staying red.

The province announced Friday afternoon that effective Monday Hamilton is moving to lockdown, while Toronto and Peel Region will remain in lockdown until at least January 4.
