The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 171 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.
The transmission source for 140 of Saturday's cases is still being investigated. According to the health unit, 22 of the cases are outbreak-related, eight are from close contact of a confirmed case and one is community-acquired.
The total case count in the region is now at 5,617. The health unit is following 1,008 active cases and 74 people are currently in local hospitals with the virus.
There were no new deaths reported in the region on Saturday, with the number of fatalities remaining at 95.
The health unit is monitoring COVID-19 outbreaks at 11 long-term care or retirement homes including The Village at St. Clair in Windsor where 68 residents and 50 staff members have tested positive for the virus. There are also 11 workplaces, three schools, three community facilities as well as two hospital outbreaks.
Across Ontario, health officials recorded 2,357 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and 27 additional deaths.
