A recent surge in COVID-19 cases reported in Sarnia-Lambton this past week has been linked to social gatherings.
Lambton Public Health is currently investigating after health officials determined that multiple COVID-19 cases were connected to formal and informal social gatherings.
The event settings in question include meat raffles, darts leagues, recreational activities, holiday gatherings, as well as office and workplace functions.
Sarnia-Lambton remains in the Yellow-Protect zone of the province's colour-coded response framework. Under the yellow tier, social gatherings are limited to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors, whereas organized public events are limited to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors.
The number of active COVID-19 cases in Sarnia-Lambton is at 49 after 20 new cases were confirmed on Saturday and two more workplace outbreaks were declared.
"This is a reminder to everyone that COVID-19 is currently actively circulating in our community," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade. "Limiting all non-essential social interactions and staying home when you are sick, even with mild symptoms, continues to be a priority. I cannot emphasize that enough.”
Close contacts of confirmed cases will be contacted directly by Lambton Public Health and told to self-isolate.
