Six new COVID-19 deaths reported in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported several new deaths related to COVID-19 on Sunday.

The health unit reported five deaths among residents of local long-term care homes. Two women and a man in their 80s, as well as two men in their 90s, passed away after contracting COVID-19.

A man in his 70s who lived in the broader community also passed away after contracting the virus.

In addition to the six new deaths, there were also 215 new cases identified in the region on Sunday and 73 recoveries. There are now 2,416 active cases in the community with 103 hospitalizations.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 8,300 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex. To date, the community has lost 151 people after they contracted the virus and 5,733 people have recovered.

The health unit is currently monitoring 42 active outbreaks in the community including 20 at long-term care or retirement facilities and 16 workplaces.

Provincially, health officials recorded 2,964 new cases on Sunday, 25 additional deaths and 2,175 recoveries.
