The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Huron and Perth has increased fairly steadily over the past month.
On Monday, January 4th alone, 50 new confirmed cases were added to the cumulative total.
But Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says the recent spike has nothing to do with transmissions over the holidays.
She says they are preparing for a spike later this month.
"My concern is that we really didn't put the strict measures into place until December 26th and typically it takes two or three weeks for that to work. So, it wouldn't surprise me if things continued at this pace or to get worse before they started to get better," said Dr. Klassen.
Dr. Klassen says the spike from Christmas and New Year's could be seen two to three weeks after the break.
She hopes that public health protocols before the lockdown and during will have some impact.
"I know we were really sharing messaging about people taking those measures even prior to the lock-down starting and I see that many, many people are doing their utmost to follow those measures, so hopefully we'll see positive impacts from that," added Dr. Klassen.
