COVID-19 outbreak declared at London grocery store

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at a big-box grocery store in London.

On Saturday morning, the Middlesex-London Health Unit announced that it had declared an outbreak at the Real Canadian Superstore, located at 1205 Oxford Street West.

According to the health unit, 10 store employees recently tested positive for the virus. The first case was on December 28 with four additional cases linked to the store on January 15.

The health unit has contacted store employees and identified close contacts. COVID-19 testing is also being recommended for all store employees and customers who shop at the location are being asked to monitor for any symptoms.

“While the risk is low that you could contract COVID-19 from products bought at the store, or contact with employees, it is important for customers to watch for the development of symptoms and to get tested if they arise,” said London-Middlesex Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Alexander Summers. “Declaring an outbreak is an important step in limiting further transmission to other employees or customers.”

According to store management, thorough cleaning and sanitization has taken place.
