Windsor Regional Hospital has provided an update on the COVID-19 situation in its units.
The healthcare system confirmed Tuesday evening that a fourth outbreak has been declared on one of its campuses. This time, the 6-North unit at the Metropolitan Campus is affected, with four patients testing positive for the virus, but no staff.
In its update, the hospital also reported that one patient and 11 staff tested positive on the Met Campus' 4-North unit, ten patients and five staff were positive on the 4-Medical unit at the Ouellette Campus, along with ten patients and six staff at the 6-East unit of Ouellette. The total sits at 25 patients and 22 staff with positive results.
WRH Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Executive Karen Riddell said they had been preparing for the possibility of additional outbreaks.
"As previously stated, we expect to experience these situations as COVID-19 continues to spread in our community,” said Riddell. “We continue to remain vigilant in ensuring that we have the correct infection prevention and control guidelines and precautions in place to reduce spread of the COVID-19 virus."
Patients are still being admitted to these units, with what WRH calls proper cohorting of COVID-19 patients, and transfers from other units must be approved by the hospital's infection prevention and control department.
The hospital says all patients are tested for COVID-19 before being admitted, and outbreak procedures remain in place.
