Deadly COVID-19 outbreaks continue in Midwestern Ontario

Huron Perth Public Health added 18 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, while public health reported there were eight new cases in Wellington County along with another fatality.

Another fatality has occurred due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at Caressant Care in Arthur. Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public health reports the outbreak has infected 93 people, and caused six fatalities. Across the region there are 14 active outbreaks at senior's facilities, which have lead to eleven deaths.

A serious COVID-19 outbreak also continues in at Caressant Care North Perth. There are 53 active cases and three fatalities in Long Term Care, and there are 16 active cases on the retirement side, where there was also one fatality.  The CEO of the Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance Karl Ellis says they have moved 19 patients to hospital and feel the situation is under control.

Long Term Care outbreaks also continue at five other long term care homes and one other retirement home in Huron Perth. At Exeter Villa, there have been 40 cases. There have been nine cases at Seaforth Manor in Huron East, and two at Fordwich Village in Howick As well, one staff member was positive at both Wildwood Care Centre in St. Marys and Spruce Lodge in Stratford. The retirement home outbreak at Exeter Villa had a total of 3 cases. There is also an outbreak at Stratford Hospital surgical unit.

There have been 29 deaths in Huron Perth since the pandemic began, and eleven in Wellington. Five people are in hospital in Wellington, and eight in Huron Perth.

Grey Bruce Public health added seven new cases Thursday. One each in Arran-Elderslie, Chatsworth, Kincardine , Saugeen Shores, and West Grey. And two in Grey Highlands. There are 34 active cases, and one probable case. Two people are in hospital.
