COVID-19 continues to take a toll in Midwestern Ontario

Huron Perth Public health reports the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 has increased to 32, while the death count in Wellington County is now at 14 people.

25 new cases of the virus were confirmed in Huron Perth Friday, 15 of them in North Perth, where there are 89 active cases. Central Huron has ten active cases, Huron East has 14, Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has eight, and Stratford 15. The remainder of the 153 active cases are scattered around Huron and Perth.  There are six long term care outbreaks, the most severe at Caressant Care in North Perth and Exeter Villa. Those two facilities are also experiencing outbreaks in their retirement homes. Eight people are in hospital with COVID-19 in Huron Perth.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported the outbreak at Caressant Care in Arthur has now sickened 107 people, and taken eight lives.  It is the most severe outbreak in that area, as 14 facilities in that region try to stem the spread of the virus. Twelve people have passed away during these outbreaks. The outbreak at Strathcona Long Term Care in Mount Forest is no longer on the active list. There were 19 new cases of the virus in Wellington County Friday, and four people are hospitalized.

There continue to be no fatalities and no outbreaks in Grey Bruce. The Grey Bruce health Unit added four new cases of COVID-19 Friday, three of them in Kincardine and one in West Grey. There are 35 active cases, and one probable case. Two people are in hospital with the virus.
