Lambton's medical officer of health fielded a wide range of pandemic-related questions during a live open-line show on CHOK 103.9 FM, 1070 AM Thursday morning.
Dr. Sudit Ranade was asked about local vaccine supply, and if there'll be enough doses to get all long-term care residents their first shots by the province's February 5 deadline.
"If you count retirement home residents and long-term care home residents it's approximately 1,500 people," said Ranade. "We will not be getting that many doses in the first group which is why the province has said high-risk retirement homes. So it's long-term care, high-risk retirement homes and Indigenous elder care residents. So, we should be able to sort of just make that, but we might have to catch up a few people."
A shipment of 500 doses of Moderna vaccine arrived Monday and inoculations started Tuesday at Trillium Villa in Sarnia.
Dr. Ranade said more doses are expected to arrive next week, but how many is not known.
"It's a very fast moving situation so we might be told an allocation and it might change," said Ranade. "So really, I'm in the mindset of we'll know what we have when we get it, because the situation is so dynamic and changes so quickly."
He also answered questions about vaccine effectiveness, side effects, impacts on individuals with autoimmune disorders and distribution for high-risk individuals.
