Staff at Windsor-Essex hospitals continue to work on controlling COVID-19 at their campuses.
At Windsor Regional Hospital, one outbreak has been declared resolved, but another one has begun. Three patients and three staff members on the 8 West unit at the Ouellette Campus have tested positive for the virus. Offsetting that is word that the outbreak on the 4 West unit is over.
As of Friday afternoon, the outbreak at Ouellette's 6 East unit involved 14 patients and nine staff. At the Metropolitan Campus, the outbreak at 4 North resulted in two patients and 13 staff members testing positive, and at the Met's 6 North unit, there are six patients affected.
Windsor Regional COO and Chief Nursing Officer Karen Riddell says staff remain vigilant and aggressive outbreak protocols are in place.
"We continue to remain vigilant in ensuring that we have the correct infection prevention and control guidelines and precautions in place to reduce spread of the COVID-19 virus," said Riddell.
Meanwhile, at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, an outbreak was declared Friday on 3-S in the Emara Centre for Healthy Aging and Mobility. Two patients have tested positive.
Outbreaks at HDGH continue on the 3-N and 2-S units. So far, five patients and seven staff members associated with these units have had positive tests.
At Erie Shores Healthcare in Leamington, there is no current outbreak. As of noon Friday, there were 16 patients admitted with confirmed COVID-19, and 11 more with a suspected positive case or a test pending.
