Wallaceburg nursing home keeps battling COVID-19

The outbreak at Fairfield Park Nursing Home in Wallaceburg has grown to a total of 59 cases of COVID-19 but some employees who were in isolation after testing positive are back at work and one resident case has been resolved.

The Chatham-Kent public health unit reported the number of cases associated with the outbreak grew by four on Tuesday morning from 55 on Monday. Home Administrator Tracey Maxim said there is currently a total of 32 residents, 26 staff, and one essential caregiver who have tested positive for the virus within the home.

"The home remains in outbreak for COVID-19 and these numbers may change as the situation unfolds," Maxim said in a statement. "Fairfield Park continues to receive staffing support from its Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team partners, and is following the advice and guidance of Chatham-Kent Public Health."

Maxim added some staff members who previously tested positive for the virus are now out of isolation and have returned to work and one resident case has been resolved. According to Maxim, staff and resident screening continues to take place twice a day, with testing taking place for staff at a minimum of every five days.

"Fairfield Park staff are thankful for the overwhelming outpouring of support from the community," Maxim said. "The good wishes, thank you emails, food deliveries, and positive messages on social media are greatly appreciated."

CK Public Health also reported six new cases of the virus overall with 23 resolved cases across the municipality. The number of active cases is down to 119, a reduction of 17 from the previous day. Four local patients are currently in the hospital, an increase of one. There is no change to the number of outbreaks. Chatham-Kent continues to have nine outbreaks -- five institutional, two workplace, one school, and one congregate living.
