New COVID cases up just three for second straight day

For the second day in row, Lambton Public Health is reporting fewer than a handful of new COVID-19 infections.

In its daily update Wednesday, the health unit reported three new confirmed cases for a total of 1,848 since the end of March.

The number of recoveries went up 10 to 1,749, putting the active case count at 61, down from 68 on Tuesday. Numbers continue to trend lower with the area’s incidence rate per 100,000 population having dropped to 50 the week of January 24 to January 30 with a positivity rate of 1.5 per cent.

There are still seven active workplace and institutional outbreaks.

Lambton Public Health reported Wednesday that 499 people in the long-term, retirement care, and Indigenous Elder Care priority group have received their first dose of Moderna vaccine.

Bluewater Health has six positive patients in hospital, unchanged from Tuesday.
