Police find gun, drugs, cell phones during motel search

Three people are facing charges after Chatham-Kent police searched a room at a motel in Ridgetown and found some cocaine and a rifle.

Police said members of the Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at a specific room at the motel last Friday night and seized some suspected cocaine, a Winchester .22 caliber rifle with a loaded magazine, some ammunition, a digital scale, and two cell phones.

A 47-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with drug and firearm related offences in connection with the case. He's set to be held in custody pending a future court date.

Two other people -- a 44-year-old Chatham man and a 31-year-old Blenheim woman -- were also arrested Thursday morning in connection with the investigation and they were also charged with drug and firearm offences. They were both later released pending a future court date.

Man accused of assaulting officer during arrest

A 37-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted an officer in Blenheim.

Police said the officer was on general patrol when he spotted the man Thursday morning and learned that he was breaching his release conditions.

The man then allegedly pulled away from the officer in an effort to resist arrest and assaulted the officer.

Police said the man was taken into custody after a short struggle, adding that they also found some suspected methamphetamine on him.

A 37-year-old Blenheim man was charged with three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions along with one count each of resisting arrest, assaulting police, and drug possession. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Police uncover drugs during traffic stop in Chatham

An early morning traffic stop on St. Clair Street in Chatham led to two arrests early Friday morning after police allegedly found a wanted woman and a woman breaching her release conditions inside the vehicle.

Police said an officer on general patrol pulled the vehicle over at around 1 a.m. Friday on St. Clair Street near Maryknoll Road in Chatham.

Officers said through their investigation, they learned that the driver -- a 37-year-old Chatham woman -- was wanted in connection with three break-ins at Access Storage in Blenheim.

Police said they also found some suspected cocaine and cash on the woman when they were searching her.

The woman's passenger -- a 40-year-old Chatham woman -- was also allegedly breaching her release conditions at the time, so she was arrested as well.

Police said when they were searching the second woman, they found some suspected crack cocaine in her possession.

A further search of the vehicle allegedly turned up some suspected crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, and a small digital scale.

Both of the women were charged and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Weapons call leads to arrest

A suspect has been charged with several offences, including possession of a weapon and uttering threats after Provincial police in Chatham-Kent (OPP) arrested the unnamed individual on Wednesday.

The OPP responded to an early morning weapons call at a home in the 14000 block of River Line, Delaware Nation. Officers attended together with members of Moravian Police and the provincial Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit. Police said the individual was arrested without incident. The accused is facing charges of possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, mischief, and failing to comply with bail conditions.

Police looking for driver involved in crash

Police are trying to track down a driver in connection with a collision on St. Clair Street near McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.

Officers said they were called to the scene of the crash on St. Clair Street near McNaughton Avenue in Chatham shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Police said through their investigation, they learned that a woman was heading south on St. Clair Street when her vehicle hit another vehicle that was turning through the intersection.

Minor damage was reported and no one was hurt, but police are still looking to speak with the woman. She was last seen driving a tan coloured car.

Speeders stopped in Chatham

Eleven drivers in Chatham-Kent have a written reminder now that they should be slowing down on the roads.

Police said they stopped eleven drivers on Thursday and charged them with speeding while officers were conducting speed enforcement on McNaughton Avenue East and Longwoods Road in Chatham.

Three arrests on warrants

Chatham-Kent police have arrested three more people who were all wanted on outstanding warrants.

A 32-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for failing to attend court to provide a DNA sample was arrested Thursday morning. Police said the man was charged and the DNA order was completed before he was released with a future court date.

A 30-year-old Wallaceburg man who was wanted for multiple counts of uttering threats and criminal harassment was arrested Thursday afternoon. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

And a 35-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for break and enter and failing to comply with his probation order was arrested Thursday night. He was later released pending a future court date.
