7 more COVID-19 deaths reported in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported multiple new deaths related to COVID-19 on Saturday.

The health unit reported six deaths among residents of local long-term care and retirement homes. Two men and a woman in their 70s, a man and a woman in their 80s and a woman in her 100s  passed away after contracting COVID-19.

A man in his 70s who lived in the broader community also passed away after contracting the virus.

In addition to the seven new deaths, there were also 25 new cases identified in the region on Saturday. There are now 365 active cases in the community with 51 hospitalizations.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 12,319 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex. To date, the community has lost 343 people after they contracted the virus and 11,611 people have recovered.

The health unit is currently monitoring 12 workplace outbreaks, 13 long-term care and retirement home outbreaks and five hospital outbreaks.

Provincial health officials reported 1,388 additional cases on Saturday, 45 new deaths and 1,786 more recoveries.
