Footprints lead police to domestic violence suspect

Chatham-Kent police were able to track down a domestic violence suspect early Tuesday morning by following some footprints in the snow.

Police said they were called to the residence in the Chatham area just before 2 a.m. Tuesday and learned that a verbal argument there had escalated into a physical altercation.

A woman was taken to the hospital via ambulance for medical attention as a result of the incident.

Police said the man accused of assaulting her took off before officers arrived, but they were able to find him hiding in a tree line approximately 2 kilometers from the residence by following his footprints.

A 36-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, and uttering threats.

Police said he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in connection with an assault investigation involving a second woman.

He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Truck reported stolen in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are looking for a grey 2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck that was reported stolen from a parking lot on Sandys Street in Chatham.

Police said it was stolen sometime between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning and was last seen with Ontario license plates ONZEHUT.

Drug-impaired driver pulled from the road

A 33-year-old woman of no fixed address is facing charges after she was allegedly caught driving while impaired in Chatham Monday night.

Police said they pulled the woman over just before 8 p.m. Monday on Prince Street for a traffic violation.

The officer who stopped her also believed she was driving while impaired, so a field sobriety test was conducted.

The woman was then arrested and taken back to police headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert evaluated her and also believed she was impaired by a drug.

When police searched the woman, they allegedly found some suspected methamphetamine in her possession.

As a result, the woman was charged with impaired driving and drug possession and was later released pending a future court date.

Woman accused of shoplifting

A 37-year-old Wallaceburg woman has been arrested in connection with a shoplifting investigation at the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the store shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The woman was charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime. She was later released pending a future court date.

Charges laid in domestic violence investigation

A 48-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with assault and uttering threats after police were called to investigate a domestic disturbance in the Wallaceburg area Monday morning.

Police said they were called to the residence at around 7:30 a.m., adding that by the time officers had arrived, the man was already gone.

Police were able to track the man down Monday afternoon and arrested him.

He was charged and later released with a future court date.

Four arrests on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent police managed to round up another batch of wanted criminals to start the week.

Police said they arrested a 50-year-old Chatham man Monday morning who was wanted in connection with a theft investigation. He was later released pending a future court date.

A 20-year-old Chatham man who was wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident was also arrested Monday morning and later released pending a future court date.

A 42-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for assault, failing to attend court, and failing to comply with his release conditions was arrested Monday afternoon. He was later released pending a future court date.

And a 33-year-old Windsor man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend a fingerprinting appointment, failing to attend court, and two counts of theft was arrested early Tuesday morning. He also was later released pending a future court date.
