Man found at the edge of Lake Erie gets help from above

Chatham-Kent police got some help from the US Coast Guard to rescue a man who was found at the bottom of the bluffs along Lake Erie Tuesday morning.

Police said they were called to the edge of the lake on Talbot Trail just west of Merlin Town Line and they were able to locate the man by following his footprints in the snow and then using a drone.

Two officers made their way safely down to where the man was located and provided him some assistance while also giving him first aid treatment for hypothermia.

Because of where the man was located, officers called in the US Coast Guard from Selfridge Air Force Base in Michigan to help with the rescue.

Police said the man was later airlifted to a London hospital for medical attention and the officers who were with him were able to return safely on their own.

CKPS are thanking the search and rescue team in Trenton, Ornge, CK EMS, CK Fire and Emergency Services and neighbours in the area for helping with their guidance and assistance during the rescue.
