Students dismissed from Catholic elementary in Lakeshore

Just a few days after the return to in-person learning, a cohort has been dismissed from a Windsor-Essex school.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board announced Wednesday evening that a group of 24 students from St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School in Belle River was dismissed after the board was notified of one confirmed case of COVID-19 there.

"We have been working with the health unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected," said board spokesman Stephen Fields in a media release. "The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students, and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow."

Only parents with children who are directly affected will be contacted. If that has not been the case, their children may continue attending class as usual as the school remains open.

The board reminds parents to monitor their children for COVID-19 symptoms before they leave for school each morning. If kids are experiencing symptoms, do not send them to school. Keep them home and contact your health care provider for further instructions.

As of Wednesday evening, this is the only active case connected to a Windsor-Essex school. There are no outbreaks in schools at this time.

Complete information about cases at the WECDSB can be found on its official website.
