Another COVID death in Lambton, total cases surpass 1,900

The death toll from COVID-19 in Sarnia-Lambton has increased again with the total case count surpassing 1,900.

Lambton Public Health reported another related death in its update Thursday, for a total of 45 since the start of the pandemic. It's the third local death since Sunday.

The health unit said the person passed away on Wednesday, February 10 and was in the 60-plus age range.

Lambton Public Health said confirmed cases are now at 1,904, up 17, and resolved cases increased by eight to 1,800. The number of active infections climbed from 51 on Wednesday to 59.

There are nine active workplace and institutional outbreaks, up from eight yesterday.

The Lambton-Kent District School Board said there are now four positive student cases at Forest's North Lambton Secondary School. Board spokesperson Heather Hughes told Blackburn News that Lambton Public Health does not feel there is any impact to the school, nor are they dismissing any students or staff.

There are now 16 cases among inmates and staff at Sarnia Jail after an outbreak was declared on February 7.

Bluewater Health reported having no positive patients in hospital.
