30 more COVID-19 cases added to Windsor-Essex case count

Thirty new cases of COVID-19 were recorded by the Windsor-Essex Health Unit on Sunday morning.

According to the health unit, 13 of the latest cases are from close contact of a confirmed case, four are community-acquired, one is out-break related and 12 cases are still under investigation.

As of Sunday, 12,986 cases have been logged overall in the region since the pandemic began. Currently, 275 cases are active and 50 individuals are in the hospital with the virus.

There were no new deaths reported on Sunday. The total number of people who have died due to the virus in the region remains at 382.

There are now only two long-term care and retirement homes in COVID-19 outbreak, down from three the previous day- Franklin Gardens and Regency Park. The latest facility to have an outbreak declared over is Rosewood Erie Glen.

Meanwhile, four workplaces are in COVID-19 outbreak, there are two community outbreaks and two hospital outbreaks.

According to the health unit, 3,680 Windsor-Essex residents have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Sunday and 11,550 have received their second dose.

Elsewhere, Ontario surpassed the 300,000 COVID-19 case count mark. On Sunday, 1,062 new cases were recorded in the province, bringing the total to 300,816. So far, 283,344 people have recovered from the virus in the province while 6,980 have passed away.
