Man in custody allegedly smashed phone receiver
A 28-year-old Chatham man who was already in police custody is in more trouble after a violent outburst while he was speaking with his lawyer.
Police said the man -- who was in custody for a domestic-related offence -- allegedly smashed the telephone receiver off of the door while he was speaking with his lawyer in a private booth Tuesday afternoon.
Officers said the receiver had to be replaced because it was broken as a result of the incident.
The man accused of smashing it was arrested and charged with mischief. He is set to be held in custody pending a future court date.

Various tools stolen from Bell Canada truck
Chatham-Kent police are asking the public for tips as they try to solve a break-in at a fenced compound on Queen Street in Chatham.
Police said sometime either Monday night or Tuesday morning, someone entered the compound and stole various tools from a locked Bell Canada truck.
The combined value of the tools that were stolen is estimated between $5,000 to $10,000.

Drug-impaired driver almost hits two people
A 55-year-old Chatham man is facing drug-impaired driving charges after he allegedly rear-ended a vehicle, drove over a curb, and almost hit two pedestrians.
Police said they were called to the scene in Chatham at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and arrested the driver because they believed the driver was impaired.
A Drug Recognition Expert evaluated the man and believed he was impaired by a drug, so he was charged with impaired driving.
He was later released pending a future court date.

Police find open liquor, drugs during traffic stop
A 33-year-old woman of no fixed address is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop in Wallaceburg Tuesday night turned up several criminal offences.
Police said an officer on general patrol pulled the vehicle over and learned that the woman behind the wheel was suspended from driving.
The officer also allegedly saw some open liquor in the centre console of the vehicle in the cup holders and found some suspected oxycodone on the woman.
The accused was arrested and charged with driving under suspension, driving a motor vehicle with open liquor, and drug possession.
She was later released with a future court date.

Man kicks door at local motel
A 32-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with mischief after he allegedly kicked a locked door to get into a room at a motel in Chatham.
Police said officers were called to the business on Monday, but the suspect allegedly took off before they arrived. He was arrested on Tuesday.
The accused was charged with mischief and later released with a future court date.

Teen accused of assaulting three people
A 15-year-old youth has been arrested and charged with three counts of assault -- including two with a weapon -- in connection with a disturbance at a residence in Dover Township.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the home Tuesday night and learned that the youth had allegedly assaulted three people there.
The accused was charged accordingly and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

More than a dozen speeders stopped on Fairview Line
Twenty drivers who were stopped on Fairview Line Tuesday afternoon have a written reminder now that they need to slow down.
Police said they issued tickets to twenty motorists on that road during a traffic enforcement initiative.
