Health unit warns of scams involving COVID vaccine rollout

With COVID vaccination clinics rolling out for the 90-plus age range, Lambton Public Health (LPH) says scammers are trying to take advantage of those booking appointments.

Health Promotion Supervisor Donna Schmidtmeyer said there have been reports of several seniors being contacted and asked for personal financial information.

"The public should know that Lambton Public Health does not charge a fee to pre-register for the vaccine, nor do we charge a fee for the vaccine itself," said Schmidtmeyer. "We will not ask you for any financial information whatsoever. And, unless you have called LPH to pre-register for the vaccine directly or signed up for the pre-registration using our online platform, no one should contact you and ask for any personal information."

If you're unsure about a call you've received, contact Lambton Public Health at 519-383-8331 for more information.

Residents can visit www.getthevaccine.ca for the latest updates on the vaccine roll-out plan in Lambton County.

The health unit announced Thursday that immunization clinics for the 90-plus demographic will begin Saturday March 6, and continue through the week of March 8.
