The Vaccination Clinic at the Maitland Rec Centre in Goderich has now reached a capacity of 550 COVID-19 vaccines in a day.
Doctor Paul Gill says they've been running the vaccine clinic every Wednesday and this was their third week. He explains, it started with priority health care workers in the first week.
"Initially it started with priority health care workers in the first week. In the second week we started to expand the invites for appointments to 80 plus individuals, caregivers, there's a whole list of people that meet the prioritization framework Provincially, as well as health care providers and other individuals." Doctor Gill says in the first week they were able vaccinate 264 people.
"So we had done, I think, in our first week, 264 in the clinic here, the following week as the eligibility criteria expanded and the vaccine provided to the region increased, we got to 350-ish range and this week we were able to get to a capacity of 550 max."
Doctor Gill says as the eligibility expands and the supply of vaccine provided by the Province continues to increase, they'll be able to provide more appointments. He adds, as the vaccine supply increases, it's likely some of the vaccine hubs in the region will start running concurrently, rather than having one run one day and another the next day and that would help increase the total number of vaccines given in the region.
