UPDATE: students dismissed from two Catholic elementary schools

Several students have been dismissed from Catholic schools in Windsor-Essex after cases of COVID-19 were confirmed.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board (WECDSB) announced that 25 students at St. William Catholic Elementary School in Emeryville and St. James Catholic Elementary in Windsor were notified on Tuesday afternoon of the cases and told that they are not to return to school on Wednesday. 19 of the students from St. James were from a particular class, while and additional six were from a bus cohort.

"We have been working with the health unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected," said Communications Coordinator Stephen Fields. "The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow."

Only parents with children who are directly impacted by the case will be contacted. Anyone who has not been identified as a close contact can continue attending school as usual.

"We have advised parents to continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning and to keep them at home and call their healthcare provider for further direction if they are ill," said Fields.

There are currently three active cases of COVID-19 at WECDSB schools. Further details can be found by visiting the school board's website.
