New Covid cases added in Midwestern Ontario Thursday

Huron Perth Public Health reported there are now four likely cases of COVID-19 variants in the region. There were three new cases of COVID-19 reported Thursday, one in West Perth, one in Bluewater and one in Central Huron . There are 21 active cases, and two people remain in hospital fighting the virus.

"In terms of variants of concern, there are now four cases of COVID-19 in Huron and Perth that have a presumptive positive screen for a variant of concern," said Huron Perth's medical officer of health Dr. Miriam Klassen.

"It's really important to continue to follow the personal and public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and its variants," said Klassen. "These variants may transmit -- some of them for sure transmit -- more easily."

The Grey Bruce Health Unit reported four new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, two in Owen Sound, one each in Grey Highlands and South Bruce Peninsula. Officials have confirmed 11 cases of variants of concern.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added three new cases in Wellington County, where there are 20 active cases. Across the public health jurisdiction, there were 21 new cases. Five people are in hospital, and two in the ICU
