An additional COVID-19 related death is being reported in the Windsor-Essex region.
The death, along with 59 new cases of the virus, was reported on Saturday morning by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
The latest person to pass away was a woman in her 60s from the community.
The total number of people who have died due to the virus in the region now sits at 402. Meanwhile, the total number of cases is now at 13,742. Of those cases, 251 are listed as being active and 16 are hospitalized.
According to the health unit, 10 of the latest cases are community-acquired, 13 are close contacts of confirmed cases and the remaining 36 cases are under investigation.
As of Saturday, there are no long-term care or retirement homes in COVID-19 outbreak. There are six local workplaces in outbreak, five community outbreaks and an outbreak one school outbreak.
To date, 56,684 residents have gotten their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, up from 53,522 on Friday. Meanwhile, 12,082 people have received their second dose.
In Ontario, provincial health officials logged 2,453 additional cases of the virus on Saturday. The total number of cases in the province is now at 340,692 with 315,865 recoveries and 7,308 deaths.
