COVID-19 positive tests higher Wednesday in Midwestern Ontario

Dozens of new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Midwestern Ontario Wednesday, up from just two cases added on Tuesday.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added 18 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours. There are 80 active cases including 23 variants of concern. Four residents are in hospital and five other people who live outside of the region have been transferred to local intensive care units.  Five new cases were in South Bruce Peninsula, three in Owen Sound and Southgate, two in Arran-Elderslie, and one in Georgian Bluffs, Grey Highlands, Meaford and West Grey.

Huron Perth Public Health added another eight confirmed cases of COVID-19, two in Stratford and North Perth, three in Perth East and one in Howick.  There are 35 active cases including 19 variants. One person is in hospital. Three healthcare workers currently have the virus.  And 82 people are self-isolating.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added 39 new cases, for a total of 491 active cases. 24 people are in acute care in Hospital, and another eight in the ICU.  In Wellington County, there were twelve new cases added and there are 89 active cases.  There are 14 active cases in Wellington North, two in Mapleton and three in Minto.
