Impaired driving charge laid three months after serious crash near Blenheim

A Petrolia woman has been charged with impaired driving three months after a serious crash near Blenheim that almost claimed her life.

Chatham-Kent police previously reported in February, that they were called to a single-vehicle crash on Talbot Trail near Lagoon Road where the woman, who was the only person inside the vehicle at the time, lost control of her vehicle and went off the road, hitting several trees before landing in a ditch.

Police said she was first rushed to a Chatham-Kent hospital with life-threatening injuries, then later transferred to a hospital in Windsor where she continued receiving treatment in critical, but stable condition.

Officers said the Traffic Management Unit took over the investigation because of the seriousness of the crash and the injuries that were sustained.

After gathering evidence for three months, a 32-year-old Petrolia woman was charged with impaired driving on May 11, 2021. She was later released pending a future court date.
