No injuries are being reported, but the damages are estimated at $700,000 after a fire broke out at a home east of Chatham overnight.
Chatham-Kent fire officials said crews from Station #12 Harwich North and Station #7 Chatham South were called to the scene at 9547 Fairview Line just before 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators with the Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services prevention team said they believe the blaze was started by the "improper disposal of smoking material."
Fire officials are reminding residents that it is always safer to smoke outside and to never walk away from lit cigarettes or other smoking materials until they are put out all the way.
