Weekly COVID rate down 75% since March

Sarnia-Lambton's weekly COVID-19 incidence rate is down 75 per cent over the past two months.

Lambton Public Health reported a rate of 40 cases per 100,000 population from May 16 to 22, down from 160 the week of March 14 to 20.

On Wednesday, the health unit reported three new confirmed cases and 10 cases deemed resolved.  The active case count is at 48, down seven over the past 24 hours, and active institutional and workplace outbreaks are still at three.

There have been a total of 3,462 confirmed cases, including 60 COVID-related deaths, since the start of the pandemic over a year ago.

To date, 68,755 vaccines have been administered to Lambton area residents, including 5,402 second doses. That's nearly 59 per cent of the eligible population.

Bluewater Health is reporting nine COVID-positive patients in hospital, unchanged from Tuesday.
