COVID-19 daily case counts in Windsor-Essex continue to trend downward.
The Windsor-Essex County Health unit reported 19 new cases on Sunday.
According to the local health unit, six cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, five are community-acquired, one is outbreak-related and seven cases are still under investigation.
The overall case count in Windsor-Essex is now at 16,644. As of Sunday, there are 168 active cases and 20 hospitalizations linked to the virus locally. To date, 1,854 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified in the region.
There were also 14 more recoveries reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of resolved cases up to 16,048.
There were no changes to local outbreaks reported from Saturday to Sunday, with five ongoing workplace outbreaks and one community outbreak at the Southwest Detention Centre.
Meanwhile, there were also no new deaths reported on Sunday, with the death toll in the region remaining at 428.
Across Ontario, provincial health officials reported 663 new cases on Sunday, which is the lowest daily case count since mid-October. As of Saturday night, the province had administered 9.9 million doses of the vaccine.
