Environment Canada has confirmed it received several reports of a funnel cloud sighting in the sky above Chatham-Kent on Tuesday, but no damage has been reported at this point.
Warning preparedness meteorologist Steven Flisfeder said from the angles he saw, it appeared to be located just southwest of Chatham.
"There were several reports, but looking at the images, it appeared to just be the one funnel cloud that was spotted from multiple angles," said Flisfeder. "With these kinds of funnel clouds, it is very difficult with the line of sight to actually have any kind of confirmation unless someone does see it hitting the ground."
A couple of photos of the funnel cloud were submitted to Blackburn News early Tuesday afternoon.

Flisfeder said the funnel cloud was likely the result of severe thunderstorms in the area, which were "initiating rapidly" on Tuesday. He said that type of activity can cause rotation and funnel clouds.
While there is the risk of a thunderstorm Wednesday afternoon, Flisfeder said it looks like the worst of the storm activity has blown over Chatham-Kent for now. He said the area should be back closer to normal daytime highs by the weekend.
If anyone does see funnel clouds, Flisfeder said they should report them as soon as possible -- you can use #ONstorm on Twitter or send an email to onstorm@canada.ca. Flisfeder said those reports are extremely valuable to Environment Canada's forecasts.
