Local vaccine doses surpass 110K

Over 30,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Lambton residents so far this month.

Since June 1, through Lambton Public Health's mass immunization clinics, the mobile unit, Bluewater Health, pharmacies and primary care, 34,476 shots have been given.

The health unit said 110,129 doses of vaccine have been administered since the rollout began on January 26, 2021, and nearly 72 per cent of the eligible adult population has had at least one dose, 27 per cent is fully vaccinated.

Lambton residents 60 years of age and up, and those who received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on or before May 21, are eligible to book their second appointment.

The local rate of infection per 100,000 population dropped to 11.5 for the week of June 13 to 19, from 13.7 the week before. The positivity rate however, went up to 1.19 per cent from 0.8 per cent.

In its daily update Wednesday, Lambton Public Health reported seven new confirmed cases of COVID-19, up to 3,571 since the start of the pandemic. Three more cases were deemed resolved for a total 3,478, increasing the number of active infections by four to 31.

An outbreak declared at Bkejwanong Children's Centre at Walpole Island on June 13 has ended.

Bluewater Health had seven COVID-positive patients in hospital.
