Plans to kick off the weekend with a round of golf or a bite on a restaurant patio may be rained out.
Parts of southwestern Ontario are expected to get a soaking Friday and Saturday, prompting Environment Canada to initially issue a special weather statement. The advisory was upgraded to a rainfall warning late Friday night.
However, Environment Canada ended a rainfall warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. The warning later ended for Middlesex-London, as well as Oxford and Elgin counties shortly after 10 a.m.
The wet weather system will move into the region Friday and could last through much of the day Saturday. Rain at times will be heavy, with between 40 to 60 mm possible. Areas hit with several thunderstorms over the next day and a half could see rainfall amounts exceeding 60 mm, according to the national weather agency.
The worst of the rainy conditions will end by Saturday night, but that doesn't mean a return of sunny days. There is a chance of showers in the forecast nearly every day next week.
