McGregor Park washrooms vandalized over holiday weekend

Municipal officials are expressing concern after washrooms at McGregor Park in Blenheim were vandalized over the holiday weekend.

Blenheim facility supervisor Chris Kirkwood said it appeared that fireworks were set off in the washrooms causing damage to a toilet and a stall door.

In addition, a bathroom stall and walls were spray painted and human feces were smeared all over the floors.

According to Kirkwood, it's not the first time vandalism has occurred at the park.

"If vandalism continues at this park, we will look into fixtures that can possibly withstand this type of abuse or make the washroom available only when there is a rental at this location," the facility supervisor said.

The damages were estimated at $500, not including the staff time to repair, clean and disinfect the washrooms.

A toilet has been replaced but the municipality is waiting on parts to fix the stall door.
