A Chatham-Kent farmer has lost over 35 acres of crop after a brush fire near Merlin on Thursday afternoon.
Fire crews from three stations responded to a wheat field fire shortly after 1 p.m. on Thirteenth Line near Dillon Road.
According to Chatham-Kent Fire, the farmer was taking the wheat off when the blaze was noticed. Due to windy conditions at the time, firefighters had a difficult time putting out the flames.
Approximately 35-40 acres of standing wheat was lost in the fire.
According to fire officials, there was no damage to any farm equipment or buildings.
