Possible COVID-19 exposure at Blenheim brewery

Chatham-Kent Public Health officials are notifying the public of a possible COVID-19 exposure over the weekend at the Red Barn Brewing Company in Blenheim.

Medical officer of health, Dr. David Colby, says patrons who received table service at the brewery located at 20466 Lagoon Road on Friday, July 23 between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. or Sunday, July 25 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. should self-monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms.

Dr. Colby adds that fully vaccinated patrons are considered low-risk contacts but should still monitor for symptoms and only self-isolate if any develop, or if the health unit instructs them to do so.

In a statement issued to social media, the brewery said the affected staff member gave the business permission to share that they were fully vaccinated before they got sick and that they are doing well so far in their quarantine.

"One of our employees (who is fully vaccinated) has tested positive for Covid, transmitted from someone at their other full time position," Red Barn Brewery said on Facebook.

As of Wednesday evening, Red Barn Brewery said it's not sure if it will be able to operate this weekend or next.

"We don't know if we have enough staff who didn't work this past weekend who can come in this upcoming weekend to work. We don't know if it will just be retail only or retail and a few tables," the statement read. "When we have more updates as to when/if we will be open these next few weeks we will update ASAP."

The health unit says those who are not vaccinated, or are not yet fully vaccinated can decrease their risk of exposure by ensuring they receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Information on upcoming clinics and options for vaccination can be found online.
